WORK EXPERIENCE

"I gained a huge amount of new knowledge and enjoyed the whole experience" - Year 10 pupil;

Work Experience is a placement on employer’s premises in which a student carries out a range of tasks or duties, as far as possible, as would an employee, but with the emphasis on the learning aspects of the experience.

All students are entitled to an experience of work at some stage during their final two years of compulsory education. The experience usually lasts two or three weeks, when an entire school year group can be on work experience at the same time. At certain times of the year, different schools will be on work experience at the same time.

With 8,000 students entitled to work experience each year in Cambridgeshire, the commitment and support of local businesses is vital to its’ success. Connexions Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, who organise work experience in Cambridgeshire, have over 5,000 such businesses supporting the programme at any one time. However, they are always looking for new businesses who can commit to offering a quality work experience opportunity to students.
